Ep 9 - Indian Approach To Mental Well-Being | Dr. Shyam Bhat

In this episode, Mukesh Bansal (Founder Myntra and Cure.fit) is in conversation with Shyam Bhat, a pioneer of Integrative Medicine and holistic psychiatry in India.

Dr. Bhat's vast career spans from stand-up comedian to a celebrated psychiatrist; but it's his novel philosophy of combining the west and east for understanding the human mind that truly sets him apart. While studying Internal Medicine and Psychiatry at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, USA, Dr. Bhat realised that thousands of years of Eastern psychiatric literature has been swept under the rug, but Western ideas that barely scratched the surface were celebrated, accoladed, and propagated — and a major portion of what he propagates today is a direct response to this.

He’s the founder of the online psychotherapy platform [Seraniti.com](http://seraniti.com/) offering online counseling, psychotherapy and integrated mind-body wellness solutions. Seraniti was acquired by Cure.fit 2 years after launching; as well as a trustee in at the Live Love Laugh Foundation founded by Deepika Padukone, published in the American Journal of Psychiatry, Annals of Internal Medicine, the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, in magazines such as Time Out, and Outlook Business, and newspapers such as the Times of India, and The Telegraph.

In this episode he breaks down how his steadfastness and determination helped not only become a renowned name in his field, but also develop Integral Self Therapy, an evidenced based psychotherapeutic method. He talks about hosting India’s first live call-in radio show about emotional wellness, publishing “How to heal your broken heart: A psychiatrist’s guide to dealing with heartbreak”, and how difficult it is to dabble in stand up comedy when the majority of content comes from the experiences of his patients.
